Grits fight court role same-sex marriage controversy (Toronto Sun)

(Senator Anne) Cools told a news conference yesterday "changing the definition of marriage is not like changing the name of a street."

She said only constitutional amendment passed by Parliament and the provinces could legally change marriage to include same-sex couples.

"We take the position that it is not the role of the court to amend the constitution or to act as representatives of the citizens of Canada," Cools said adding, the court is not an elected body.
