Ottawa unfair to the NCC, Beaudry says: Chairman tells Senate panel city likes to keep commission land unzoned for its own purposes

The City of Ottawa doesn't treat the National Capital Commission fairly when it comes to zoning, the NCC's chairman testified at a Senate committee hearing yesterday.

"Generally speaking, the City of Ottawa always likes to keep NCC's land as open land, no zoning," Marcel Beaudry told the Senate's finance committee near the end of 21/2 hours of testimony.

...

"Senator Anne Cools, a Mooney's Bay-area resident who has taken up the Moffatt Farm cause, said Mr. Beaudry's performance is evidence the NCC has to be reformed.

"What I heard today was very haughty," she said. "I was just amazed at the distance between the NCC and the public, even the NCC and the senators."
